Child Friendly Communities
Child Friendly Community Program
The evolution of the Child-Friendly Community (CFC) Program within GoodWeave is attributed to addressing the root cause of Child Labour through a community-based approach, aiming to transform the participating community into a child-labour-free zone. The program attempts to bring all children aged between 6 to 14 years to derive the Free and Compulsory Education benefit of schooling as per the Right to Education Act (RTE) in worker communities and urban labour colonies.
The CFC works to establish a tradition of childhood education that is not just limited to school enrolment and attendance but achieving age-appropriate learning for children. The program aims at reaching 100% of the children in the community in the age group of 6-14 years to provide needed academic support to the children, orientation to their families, and training and administrative support to schools. The program and monitors the progress through a robust data-driven information system for taking corrective action.
The CFC program in carpet-weaving and apparel handwork communities is currently present in 54 locations spread over three states, i.e., Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, benefiting 41,221 children as we speak.
